Hello, friends and supporters,
My name is Ratna Karki, and if you’re reading this, you’ve taken the first step in joining our journey to bring sustainable healthcare to Surkhet. Today, I want to share with you not just what we’re building, but why—and more importantly, why here.
The Reality of Healthcare in Surkhet
Surkhet is a region of incredible resilience and beauty, but its healthcare landscape tells a different story. During my years working as a pharmacist, I’ve witnessed firsthand the struggles families face:
- Distance is a barrier: Many travel 1–2 hours on foot just to reach a basic health post.
- Preventable conditions become chronic: With 38.9% of adults affected by hypertension, and limited screening options, many don’t know they’re at risk until it’s too late.
- Mothers and children are left vulnerable: Nearly 25% of married women in our region suffer from uterine prolapse, yet skilled maternal care remains out of reach for many.
Why a Pharmacy and Clinic?
Too often, healthcare here is fragmented. You might get a diagnosis, but not the right medicine. Or you might find medicine, but no one to explain how to take it safely. That’s why our model integrates both under one roof—with qualified pharmacists, doctors, and nurses working side-by-side.
Our Chosen Location
We’ve secured a central, accessible location in Surkhet, carefully selected to serve both town residents and nearby villagers. It’s more than a building—it’s a future hub for health, education, and hope.
A Personal Commitment
This project is deeply personal to me. I grew up here. I’ve seen neighbors struggle, families lose loved ones to treatable conditions, and communities miss out on the basic right to health. That ends now.
What’s Next?
Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing more updates—from renovation progress to team hiring. We’re also planning our first community health workshop on hypertension awareness this June.
